CHAC to meet on June 6

* Time, location subject to change. Notice of changes will be posted 24 hours prior to meeting.

CHAC serves as an official liaison and communications link between the Hispanic community and the Coconino County Board of Supervisors, so please bring any concerns you may have about equal education opportunities, fair employment, juvenile justice, political representation and other issues.

CHAC is a supporter of the Ballet Folklórico de Colores — Flagstaff, Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces, the Hispanic Convocation at Northern Arizona University, the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association of Flagstaff and other organizations.

CHAC holds 2018 César E. Chávez Community Recognition Celebration

FLAGSTAFF — Area Hispanic Korean War veterans and their family members received a well-deserved community recognition, while a Northern Arizona University lecturer provided a heartfelt presentation on the life of César E. Chávez, including his own personal remembrance of the late labor leader, during the fourth annual César E. Chávez Community Recognition Breakfast held Friday, March 30, 2018 at American Legion Mark A. Moore Post No. 3, Flagstaff.

The celebration, which drew a record audience of 120 commuity members, dignitaries and elected officials, was presented by the Coconino County Hispanic Advisory Council (CHAC).

March 26 through 30 — NAU Ethnic Studies to present César Chávez Week events

FLAGSTAFF — NAU Ethnic Studies will present a series of César Chávez Weekevents from March 26 through March 30.

Events include:

  • March 26 — 7 to 9 p.m. Monday — Film showing of “Salt of the Earth” (1954), NAU Student Union, Room 105, Office of Inclusion: Multicultural & LGBTQIA Student Services (IMQ).
  • March 27 — 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday — Opening of the Farmworkers Photo Collection with Dr. Jerry Garcia. “The Farmworker Experience and UFW Organizing in the Pacific Northwest,” NAU Student Union Extension (near the food court).
  • March 28 — 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday — “The Crusade for Justice and Corky Gonzales Relationship with Cesar Chavez and the Farmworker Movement” with Ernesto Virgil, SBS Castro Building, Room 217.
  • March 29 — 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday — “Agricultural Labor Production and Organizing in the U.S. Empire 1900 to 1980” with Dr. Jose G. Moreno. Film: Documentary on “Dolores Huerta” 2018).
  • March 30 — 4 to 6 p.m. Friday — MEChA de NAU Film Night — “Walkout” (2006), NAU Student Union, Room 105, Office of Inclusion: Multicultural & LGBTQIA Student Services (IMQ).
