FLAGSTAFF — More than a dozen community education and career organizations are prepared to provide information for the second annual College & Career Resource Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at Killip Elementary School, 2300 E. 6th Ave., Flagstaff.

Presented by the Coconino County Hispanic Advisory Council (CHAC), the fair is open to parents, high school students and interested community members and will offer information to help area youth prepare for employment, internships, job shadowing and high-school-to-college transition and find financial aid as they prepare for higher education and the next steps needed for their future.

Flagstaff Police Department Citizens Liaison Committee to hold public meeting at Flagstaff High School on Sept. 14

sept-14FLAGSTAFF — The Flagstaff Police Department Citizens Liaison Committee will hold its next quarterly public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Flagstaff High School, 400 W. Elm Ave., Flagstaff.

Receive feedback from the Flagstaff Police Department on citizen input from the committee’s open house meeting on June 22 at the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association and a brief presentation on the use of body cameras by police officers.

The volunteer community group was formed following discussions with the community in early 2014 and is supported by a grant from the Arizona Community Foundation, the Flagstaff Community Foundation and the Forest Highlands Foundation.

Members work to improve the communications process between the department and the community, encourage community members to submit complaints without fear of retribution and provide a proactive informational forum to address community concerns when incidents and issues arise.

The entire community is invited to be a part of this meeting. Light refreshments will be provided. If special accommodations  are needed, please contact the Flagstaff Police Department at 928-779-3646 at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting date/time.

04-01-16 Cesar E. Chavez Community Recognition BreakfastFLAGSTAFF — The Coconino Hispanic Advisory Council will present the second annual César E. Chávez Community Recognition Breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday, April 1 at Tacos Los Altos Westside, 2500 S. Woodlands Village, Flagstaff.

The event will honor Hispanic veterans, community and student leaders.

The guest speaker is Jose J. Cortez, who will share his story of working with the United Farm Workers Union and also on the KJZZ program “Making of the ‘Chavistas.’ ” Click here to listen to the program.
