CHAC to hold next meeting on Monday, Nov. 5

The Coconino County Hispanic Advisory Council will hold its next meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at the Coconino County Administration Building, 219 E. Cherry Ave., Flagstaff.

The public is invited to speak on any items or area of concern.

Mayan Calendar talk, music, food, closing altar blessing part of Celebraciones de la Gente on Oct. 28

A discussion on the 2012 Mayan Calendar by guests from Guatemala, Ballet Folklorico, Mariachi workshops and performances and a moving closing ceremony with the blessing of the ofrendas (altars) were experienced by visitors during the closing day of the 9th annual Celebraciones de la Gente held Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Museum of Northern Arizona.

The event was presented by the museum and partner Flagstaff Nuestras Raices.

The Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration featured a “Lively Day of the Dead Celebration” which included food, arts and crafts booths, face painting and the presentation of the annual mural project.

Performers include Maríachí Sol Azteca, Los Compadres and Ballet Folklorico de Colores of Flagstaff.

Visitors to the Museum of Northern Arizona had the opportunity to see folklorico and mariachi performances, stroll around the historic courtyard and visit nearly two dozen ofrendas (altars), enjoy food and visit arts and crafts booths during the first full day of the 9th annual Celebraciones de la Gente on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The event was presented by the museum and partner Flagstaff Nuestras Raices.

Community enjoys opening night of Celebraciones de la Gente on Oct. 26

Members of the Museum of Northern Arizona and their guests celebrated the “Member’s Preview” of the 9th annual Celebraciones de la Gente on Friday, Oct. 26 in Flagstaff.

The Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration was produced in partnership with Flagstaff Nuestras Raices. Visitors were welcomed  by the Museum’s Director Dr. Robert Breunig, along with Flagstaff Nuestras Raices President Lydia Anaya.

Visitors had the opportunity to visit the museum’s courtyard and see the nearly two dozen candlelite ofrendas (altars), enjoy music and food.
