Nuestras Raíces, Hispanic veterans, community groups take part in 2012 Armed Forces Day Parade

Members of Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces and other community members took part in the annual Armed Forces Day Parade held May 19, 2012 in downtown Flagstaff. Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces, which celebrates Hispanic culture in Northern Arizona, was joined by Ballet Folklorico de Colores in Flagstaff, Hispanic Veterans and other community supporters during the parade. As part of the parade, Nuestras Raíces decorated a car featuring photos and information about Latino veterans from Flagstaff and Coconino County. Photos by Frank X. ¡Ask a Mexican! discussed his latest book on April 20 in Flagstaff

Gustavo Arellano, known nationwide for his controversial column ¡Ask a Mexican!, came to Flagstaff as part in a book signing April 20 at Café Olé at 121 So. San Francisco St.

Arellano was on a nationwide tour to promote his book “Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America.”

¡Meet the Mexican! in Flagstaff on April 20

The irreverent and never irrelevant Gustavo Arellano, known nationwide for his controversial column ¡Ask a Mexican!, will be arriving for a book signing starting on Friday, April 20 at Café Olé, 121 So. San Francisco St., Flagstaff.

In a message to CHAC via Facebook, Arellano said the talk will begin at 5:30 p.m.

“… Hope to see ustedes there!” he said.

Arellano is on a nationwide tour to promote his book “Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America.” He was scheduled to be in Santa Fe on April 19 and will then head to Tempe for a book signing on April 21.

Arellano is no stranger to Flagstaff, at least in his writings.

In a column that appeared nationwide in 2011, including the OC Weekly, he addressed a shout-out by a Flagstaff resident.

Latino Perspectives presents 2012 Latina Trailblazers Award

Supervisor Elizabeth “Liz” Archuleta was among several women honored by Latino Perspectives Magazine as the Arizona Latina Trailblazers for 2012. The awards were presented March 28, 2012 at the Phoenix Art Museum.

Other awardees included Amada Aguirre, Anna María Chávez and Terri Cruz.
