CHAC takes part in 20th annual Celebraciones de la Gente at the Museum of Northern Arizona

The Coconino Hispanic Advisory Council (CHAC) took part in the 20th annual Celebraciones de la Gente held on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21, 22, 2023 at the Museum of Northern Arizona.

CHAC and Coconino County District 2 Supervisor Jeronimo Vasquez were the among the Premier Sponsors for the event, which was also supported by  the State of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts and APS.

CHAC provided an information table with details on the organization and Coconino County.

Celebraciones de la Gente is a partnership between Flagstaff Nuestras Raíces and the Museum of Northern Arizona honoring the cultural traditions of the Hispanic/Latino community in Northern Arizona.

Mayan Calendar talk, music, food, closing altar blessing part of Celebraciones de la Gente on Oct. 28

A discussion on the 2012 Mayan Calendar by guests from Guatemala, Ballet Folklorico, Mariachi workshops and performances and a moving closing ceremony with the blessing of the ofrendas (altars) were experienced by visitors during the closing day of the 9th annual Celebraciones de la Gente held Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Museum of Northern Arizona.

The event was presented by the museum and partner Flagstaff Nuestras Raices.

The Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration featured a “Lively Day of the Dead Celebration” which included food, arts and crafts booths, face painting and the presentation of the annual mural project.

Performers include Maríachí Sol Azteca, Los Compadres and Ballet Folklorico de Colores of Flagstaff.

Visitors to the Museum of Northern Arizona had the opportunity to see folklorico and mariachi performances, stroll around the historic courtyard and visit nearly two dozen ofrendas (altars), enjoy food and visit arts and crafts booths during the first full day of the 9th annual Celebraciones de la Gente on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Nearly two dozen ofrendas (altars) were on display in the courtyard at the Museum of Northern Arizona during the weekend of Oct. 27-28 when the museum and partner Flagstaff Nuestras Raices presented the 9th annual Celebraciones de la Gente.

Celebraciones de la Gente to be presented Oct. 27-28 in Flagstaff

The 9th annual Celebraciones de la Gente will be presented from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28 at the Museum of Northern Arizona, 3101 No. Fort Valley Road, Flagstaff.
